Cryopreservation of spermatozoa makes it possible to maintain their vitality thanks to being frozen in liquid nitrogen at -196 ° C.
1 SPERMATOZOA CONSERVATION
The seminal fluid is cryopreserved for three reasons: to conserve the spermatozoa of patients undergoing chemo and radio therapy; to conserve the spermatozoa taken by TESE, MicroTESE and MESA; for psychological reasons, avoiding pickup difficulties on the day of intrauterine insemination or in vitro fertilisation.
2 CONSERVATION TIME OF SPERMATOZOA
According to Swiss federal law, the maximum period of cryopreservation is 5-10 years. 40% of the defrosted spermatozoa is vital, which guarantees results of the PMA techniques similar to those obtained with spermatozoa which has just been ejaculated.
Cryopreservation of spermatozoa is carried out in specialised laboratories, under liquid nitrogen, at a temperature of -196 ° Celsius.
At ProCrea, spermatozoa can be cryopreserved for up to 5-10 years. Possible extensions may be applicable for patients undergoing medical treatment or activities that put their fertility at risk.
The analysis of the male’s seminal fluid and conservation of spermatozoa for the first year costs 500 euro. Cryopreservation for the following years costs 300 euro. For further details please consult the relative Tariff section.
